The Veterans Day Parade was bigger this year. The word got out that the parade was going to be cancelled due to lack of interest and groups from around the area came forward to participate. Residents of Terre Haute and Vigo County must have heard the same word because for the first time in many years the street was lined with people. It was cold and it was wet, and the turnout was the best it has been in years.
Veterans Day honors all who have served in the military. On 11/11/1918 at 11:00 an Armistice was signed between the Allies and Germany to end the fighting of World War I. In 1954 Armistice Day was renamed Veterans Day.
Adding to the Veterans groups that participated in the parade this year were the marching bands from all three local high schools. Each school offered a different patriotic song as they marched along Wabash Ave. honoring those who have served the United States.

Veterans Day Honors EVERYONE who has served in the military. It is distinct from Memorial Day in that this day is to celebrate and thank all those who have served or are serving in military.
Thank you to all the Veterans.
