Vigo County Commissioner Mike Morris on Tuesday March 1st used one of his semi trailers to block a lane of traffic on Fruitridge Avenue and I-70 overpass.

The Commissioner had a Trump/Pence banner on the side of trailer and claims he was blocking traffic because it’s all about freedom.

Morris, was not available for comment, but in the name of supporting freedom, the highest elected official in Vigo County apparently encourages all citizens of Vigo County to block roads or bridges to support their favorite causes.

TerreHauteNews would not recommend doing this, especially at or near the commissioner’s office on 1st street. You will get a ticket….but should you?

What if you wave a sign, or sing a song? How is the determination made?

Vigo County Sheriff stated it is unfortunate that a hazard was created and the Indiana State Police said they support anyone expressing their First Amendment Rights.

The First Amendment to the Constitution states:

Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.

So, perhaps it is not illegal to park your car in the middle of a two lane overpass.

So, what is the LAW?

Well, without a permit you can not intentionally obstruct others. Street, sidewalk, park, etc.

You can not legally just stop your car in the middle of the street and say you are doing it in the name of Freedom. You can’t block traffic, clog sidewalks, or infringe on anyone else using a public space unless you have a permit allowing you to do so.

UNLESS, you can.

Citizens should follow the law, elected officials are the law.

  1. Morris did what people all over this Country are doing – supporting The People’s Convoy. I believe vigo county has only 2 overpasses for people to stand and wave flags in support of freedom. Other States provided police escorts and block roadways to assist. Even when the Governor of Illinois said they were not welcome, the Indiana State and County police escorted them. A facility in Monrovia housed them for 2 days in support but only a handful of those supporting the Constitution and our freedoms showed up to support them in Vigo County. Thank you to Mike Morris!
