The Veterans Health Indiana announced Wed. Dec. 11th that it plans to build a new clinic in Terre Haute, IN.

The $40 million dollar outpatient clinic will be located on the city’s east side behind the Walmart on SR46. The nearly 13 acres of land is currently owned by Greg Gibson, the owner of the convention center and casino property both planned for Terre Haute.

The clinic will house primary care physicians, mental health care, eye clinic, pharmacy, physical therapy, audiology, and lab.

The new Terre Haute VA clinic will combine the currently available health clinic and mental health service locations into the new facility.

The clinic will offer services targeted towards Homeless Veterans as well with social workers to assist with housing.

Terre Haute’s homeless veterans can take the bus from Downtown to the east side location for a reduced fare of $0.85 one way. The city bus departs the downtown bus transfer center to the Walmart East location every hour from 6:15AM to 5:15PM. The return trip leaves Walmart every hour from 6:28AM to 5:28PM.

Construction of the New 46,000 SQFT VA clinic is expected to begin in the late spring of 2020 and be completed by summer of 2021.

The legislative efforts of former Sen. Joe Donnelly (D-IN) helped facilitate the funding and location of the VA clinic in Terre Haute. It is expected to serve over 10,000 veterans annually.

The influx of federal health dollars to the Terre Haute community is viewed as a tremendous benefit. Terre Haute will see the addition of several veterans health care service providers and support positions to help the local economy, especially if they choose to live in Terre Haute/Vigo County. Fueling the local income and property tax base needed to sustain the areas spending needs.
