Convicted felon arrested in North Terre Haute police standoff


Once again brave local law enforcement are placed into a life and death situation with a felon in Vigo County.

On Oct. 8th at approximately 12:30am, Vigo County Sheriff’s deputies responded to a report of shots fired in North Terre Haute close to the little league ball field.

When deputies arrived they heard several gunshots, and a white male carrying a firearm.

He was later identified as 38 year old Brent Powers.

Deputies identified themselves and attempted to make contact with Powers. Powers then fled into a residence at 4100 E Markle Ave after being told several times to stop.

Powers barricaded himself inside. A perimeter was set up around the residence and the Prosecutor’s Office was contacted. Eventually a search warrant was issued and the Terre Haute Police Department Special Response team was called to assist.

At around 9:00 AM Powers surrendered to police.

He was arrested and is charged with the following:

1. Criminal Recklessness committed with a deadly weapon

2. Unlawful Possession of a Firearm by a Domestic Batterer

Power has a previous convictions stemming from an incident in 2010

2.DOMESTIC BATTERY- Knowingly Or Intentionally Touches A Person Who Is Or Was The Spouse Of The Other

3.RESISTING LAW ENFORCEMENT- Forcibly Resists, Obstructs, Or Interferes W/Law Enforcement
